TEXAS HORNED LIZARD Phrynosoma cornutum (Harlan, 1825)

STATUS:  Rare

DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Somervell, Tarrant, and Wise

HABITAT:  Western Cross Timbers, Fort Worth Prairie, Mesquite Grand Prairie, Eastern Cross Timbers, and Blackland Prairie

COMMENTS:  The Texas horned lizard has disappeared from many areas where it was once common, possibly due to insecticides.
